More Than a Haircut: Why AZ Hair For Men is Different
There are plenty of places to get your hair cut in Sydney CBD. What sets AZ Hair For Men apart isn't just the quality of the cut. It's everything that surrounds it.
I've been doing this for over 20 years. I've worked in busy salons, competed on the circuit, trained with American Crew, and spent a lot of time figuring out what actually makes a difference to the people sitting in my chair. And the honest answer is: it's rarely just the haircut.
That's why AZ Hair For Men is set up the way it is. Not as a typical salon, but as a private, one-on-one studio where the experience is built around you from start to finish. Here's what I think makes it genuinely different.
1) You're Not Just a Name in the Book
In a lot of salons, you're one of many clients moving through the day. The appointment is 45 minutes, someone checks in with you at the start, and then it's heads down until the next person is waiting.
That's not how I work. When you book with me, that time is yours. No one is waiting behind you. I'm not mentally already at the next client. We talk properly at the start, I look at your hair, your face shape, how you're wearing it now and what you actually want from it, and then we go from there. It sounds simple, but it's rarer than it should be.
2) The Skill Comes From Years of Doing This at a High Level
I've trained and competed seriously. Editorial work, American Crew competitions, and years as a senior stylist at Detail For Men before going out on my own. Two decades of scissor technique across all kinds of hair types and face shapes. That kind of experience changes how you see a haircut. You stop thinking about what looks good in the chair and start thinking about how it sits three weeks later, how it grows out, how it behaves in the rain or on a humid Sydney morning.
That's what I'm trying to give every client. A haircut that works for their actual life, not just for the photo.
3) I Also Do Certified Coaching, and the Two Things Connect
This is the part that surprises people. I'm an NLPAA Accredited Master Practitioner with a background in counselling focusing on anxiety management. Through AZ PowerCoaching, I work with men on anxiety, stress, and confidence using structured, evidence-based methods.
The connection to hair isn't a stretch. Chronic stress affects the nervous system, and the nervous system affects hair health. Low confidence affects how you carry yourself, how you look after yourself, and often how you feel walking into a room. I understand all of that because I work with it every day, both in the chair and in coaching sessions.
You don't have to combine the two. Most clients just come for a haircut. But knowing that side of things changes how I listen and what I pay attention to.

Level 5, 64 Castlereagh Street. I chose this location because it matches what I want the experience to feel like. It's calm, private, and a long way from the noise of a busy salon floor. There's no waiting room chatter, no overlapping appointments, no sense of being processed.
I also offer a complimentary beer or coffee when you arrive. Not as a nice touch for the sake of it, but because I genuinely want the appointment to feel like something you look forward to, not just another thing to tick off the list.
5) I Show You How to Manage Your Hair at Home
A haircut only looks good for as long as you can maintain it. So before you leave, I walk you through exactly what to do at home. Which products suit your hair type, how much to use, the actual technique for your specific cut. Not a vague suggestion on the way out, but a proper rundown you can follow the next morning.
That's part of the service because the point isn't just how you look leaving the studio. It's how you feel about your hair every day.
6) Everything Is Done by One Person Who Knows Your Hair
Every service you get at AZ Hair For Men is done by me. Not a junior, not a different stylist depending on who's available. That means I remember what we did last time, what worked, what we adjusted, and where we're headed. It builds over time, and that continuity makes a real difference.
To Put It Simply
If you want a fast cut between meetings, there are options for that nearby. But if you want someone who takes the time to actually understand what you need, who's been doing this at a high level for over 20 years, and who sees the whole picture, that's what I'm here for.
Not many studios on Castlereagh Street can say the same.
